Coffee Beans chock full of caffeine.

Does Topical Caffeine really work in SHAMPOO?

Is there any evidence for treatment of hair loss?

Does it even penetrate the hair follicles....

Topical shampoos with added caffeine tout the benefits of hair regrowth. But is there any scientific evidence that it actually penetrates the hair follicle when applied to the scalp?

At Help Hair we do the research for you.

Here ares 4 studies that show the benefits of topical caffeine.

1)https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23075568

This study show that Caffeine will increase circulation and stimulate hair growth by decreasing DHT.

"Caffeine is being increasingly used in cosmetics due to its high biological activity and ability to penetrate the skin barrier.

"Moreover, caffeine contained in cosmetics increases the microcirculation of blood in the skin and also stimulates the growth of hair through inhibition of the 5-α-reductase activity."

2)https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18070215

This study shows that topical caffeine penetrates into the blood stream.

"Caffeine (3.75 ng ml(-1)) was detected in blood samples, 5 min after topical application, when the follicles remained open. When the follicles were blocked, caffeine was detectable after 20 min (2.45 ng ml(-1)). Highest values (11.75 ng caffeine ml(-1)) were found 1 h after application when the follicles were open."

3)https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC27672...

This study shows that caffeine enters the blood at maximum blood concentration after 1 hour.

"The in vivo results obtained by Otberg et al. [14] showed a penetration of caffeine into the blood already after a few minutes, following topical application (see Figure 1). The maximum of caffeine penetration was reached after 1 h (control samples) or 2 h (test samples)."

Figure 1

"Kinetics of caffeine penetration for control and test skin sites in relation to the topically applied amount of caffeine, determined as 100%."

4)https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC35000...

This study shows that Caffeine actually counteracts the negative effects of Testosterone on the hair follicle.

"Addition of caffeine in concentrations of 0.001% and 0.005% were found to counteract the suppressive effects of testosterone on hair growth, with a higher hair shaft elongation seen at 120 h after caffeine administration, compared to control group."

Conclusion:

At Help Hair our research reveals that caffeine alone will not increase hair growth. Otherwise everyone at Starbucks would have a full head of hair.
